Shrek is beloved by most, the film has been adapted into a musical, there’s a Shrek Adventure in London, our love for Shrek knows no bounds. But what about Shrek burlesque?
Trigger Happy, a famous Australian burlesque star who competed on America’s Got Talent has created Swamplesque – a burlesque parody of the film.
All the characters are portrayed on stage, from the Three Little Pigs, Pinocchio, Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona, Lord Farquaad, Dragon, and Gingy.
The song choices are just perfection, from Pussycat Dolls “Buttons” for the Gum Drop Buttons moment, and the mirror singing “Man in the Mirror” on rollerskates. These choices provide humour and make the crowd go wild. Classic songs from the film are also incorporated, including “Hallelujah”.
The atmosphere this show creates is warm and incredibly inclusive. Every body type can be seen on stage and it feels beautifully refreshing.
The performers are unbelievably talented, the dancing is well choreographed, the miming is perfectly timed, and Tash York as Princess Fiona displays impeccable vocals.
The only way this could be improved upon is if they incorporated Shrek 2 as well – ultimately this is the best Shrek film.
No layers are left unexposed in this fun, inclusive, and joyous show.
