a youngish perspective ★★★★
The best thing I can say is this show doesn’t cut corners on either the Shrek or the burlesque parts. If you want powerful, sultry and graceful dances without Smash Mouth playing over the top, go somewhere else. If you want a comedy about Shrek without one of the characters stripping by the end of the scene, into a melodramatic and camp song – go somewhere else.
If you were curious enough to start reading a review about a Shrek themed burlesque show – the show is everything you want and will keep you laughing, cheering, jeering and in awe for almost every minute.
The dances are impressive, moving and camp as possible, Shrek pirouetting to “I need a hero” will stay with you longer than I’d care to admit. The jokes are all on that fine line of eye rolling bad jokes you can’t help laughing at, and the costuming is all consistent to the Shrek characters as well as working surprisingly well for a strip tease.
The man in the mirror has the highlight with an extraordinary costume of mirrored panels that dazzle and shine as they reflect the light during his dance, truling shining in their solo dance.
